Amy on the issues
Safety
Children must feel safe to perform well at school. Safety should always be a top priority in our district. We should continue to work with parents, educators, administration, and our wonderful resource officers from Johnstown and Milliken Police Departments to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Teachers, staff, and parents need to be made aware of any possible threat to their safety and the safety of our students.
Academic Rigor
Studies are showing that our students fell behind during the restrictions and closures due to COVID and mask mandates. A heavy burden was put on our children, educators, and parents both academically and mentally. We need to work together to ensure our students achieve academic success.
Additionally, we must ensure we are meeting the unique academic needs of all students. This includes those with additional learning needs, whether it be an IEP or an ALP, but we also must be exceptionally careful to not neglect the needs of those in the middle.
Transparency
All school districts should be transparent in their meetings, business, curriculum, and finances. We are managing tax dollars that impact our greatest asset, our children. Transparency is the law.
The Future
We should prepare our children for the next chapter after high school. There are a variety of paths each student can take, and we should provide them with the resources to best succeed in whichever path they choose, be it college, tech school, or directly entering the workforce.
Respect
Respect starts at the top with our school board. As parents and educators, we set an example for the students in our district. We should be open to respectful debate and discussion.
