About Weld RE-5J School District

Weld County RE-5J School District is a small district comprised of the Johnstown and Milliken communities, along with a small portion of Berthoud and Greeley.

The district schools include both charter and public schools which serve over 3,900 students. In total the district houses 7 schools, two of which are charter schools.

This unique district is governed by a board of five members, each nominated from their respective neighborhood districts (although the entire district votes on all of them). Each board member is elected to a term of four years.

Surrounded by school districts five to ten times the size, Weld RE-5J has maintained it’s autonomy through the years, often utilizing the district’s small size and heavily involved parents to develop creative policy that fits the needs of students, staff and parents.

According to the 2020 census, the district’s minority enrollment is 30% and 21.1% of students are economically disadvantaged.
